Woven Threads at Astley Castle
Thursday 25th Aug 2022
I'm really happy and somewhat surprised to announce that my
Woven Threads collection of work will be on view in public
again, for the first time in 10 years. I'd like to thank
John Burton from The Bedworth Society and The George Eliot
Fellowship and Sarah Jane Downing for this opportunity.

The latest addition to the Heritage Centre in Bedworth was
officially opened this morning. Alongside the Woven Threads
project are a replica of a traditional ribbon weaving loom
and a Victorian hand loom. The Parsonage also opened it's
exhibition 'Ticket's please' about the heritage of public
transport in Coventry and Bedworth. After the official
ribbon cutting, we were given coffee in Bedworth's historic
Almshouses.

On Tuesday 1st November I visited the Parsonage Heritage
Centre in Bedworth to see the Woven Threads exhibition in
its new location. The exhibition is in the centre's new
aquisition, the Nurse's House which originally belonged to
the adjacent Almshouses. I met John and Linda Burton who
have been fantastically supportive of my project and also
work so hard to promote and preserve local heritage and
history. They have acquired a Victorian weaving loom and a
handmade replica of a traditional ribbon weaving loom which
are displayed alongside my work. I am really happy with how
my work looks in the space; the scale of my work seems to
suit the size and historical nature of the room. I've added
some photographs of the exhibition to the gallery section,
although they don't convey the feeling of the venue in quite
the same way as being there.

The Woven Threads Exhibition will very soon be on display at
the Nurse's House at the Parsonage Heritage Centre in
Bedworth. The Nurse's House is a new addition to the
Heritage Centre having been renovated by volunteers and
fundraising from the Bedworth Society. I'm very pleased to
say that Woven Threads will be the first exhibition in the
Nurse's house and will be displayed along side a Victorian
Weaving loom and a replica of a tradional ribbon weaving
loom.
Yesterday morning I went to visit John and Lynda Burton from
the Bedworth Society and Parsonage Heritage Centre to
discuss my exhibition being displayed in the Nurse's House.
We met at the Old meeting Church which they are currently
involved with renovating and restoring and of course fund
raising for. It was very interesting to hear about the
building's history and how it had changed over time. They
then showed me the Nurse's House and the Parsonage Centre
and we discussed my work and how best to display it. My
sister Sarah came with me to help transport my art work and
to discuss display options and to keep me calm when I got
lost driving around Bedworth town centre in circles! It was
the usual case of not really being lost but not realising I
was in the right place. We left John and Lynda awaiting the
delivery of the Victorian loom which will be a permanent
feature of the Nurse's House.
I will update with more information about dates and times of
the exhibition soon!
